Staying in Varna
St. Constantine and Elena is the oldest resort along the Bulgarian black sea coast. That is why we have chosen the Hotel Aurora for our prospective property owners as the perfect place to enjoy their stay in Bulgaria. The rooms cost EUR 20 per night, a special price for our clients. The hotel benefits from a bar and restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner, roof garden with spectacular views across the resort and to the sea, sauna and gym. The hotel is a three minute scenic walk to the beach, fifteen minutes drive from the centre of Varna and is five minutes walk away from the bus stop, supermarket, bars and restaurants.
Your hosts at the Hotel Aurora will register you as a foreigner, complete all the necessary paperwork and provide you with a registration slip, which will need to be carried with you at all times and also presented at the airport when you depart for the UK. This procedure is necessary for all foreigners entering Bulgaria. The resort is an elegant holiday destination that prides on a long tradition of hospitality. Situated in a fine old park with cypresses, lilies and fig trees, quiet bays, sand beaches and curative mineral springs, the resort offers modern restaurants serving national and European cuisine, sports and entertainment for any age. Located in the middle of a natural park with a broken coastline, small bays and scattered cliffs.
The name of the resort comes from the nearby monastery “St Constantine and Elena”, which was built at the beginning of the18th century. A small church halfway under the ground with regular services is the only surviving structure. This was favourite recreational place for the people of Varna long before the Liberation.
Sightseeing
There are many beautiful and interesting places to visit during your stay in Varna. A great starting point for a casual stroll in the city is the opera house passing through the city centre and visiting the Roman fortress wall and Round Tower, the Cathedral of the Assumption, Old Clock Tower, the seaside park. The 19th century Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin is an imposing landmark, which contains a finely carved iconostasis and bishop's throne, some interesting murals and stained glass. The 2nd century thermae are the remains of the largest Roman public building in Bulgaria. The Seaside Park stretches for about 8 km and is apparently the largest of its kind in Europe. Easily accessible from the city centre, it’s bursting with people and festivals in summer. It houses various museums including one on Natural History, a Planetarium, zoo and aquarium. The most important museum in Varna is, however, the Archaeological museum, which shows 100,000 objects housed in 39 rooms along two massive floors. The highlights are perhaps the 6000-year-old gold and copper objects, which are reputedly the oldest of their kind in the world. Situated in the sea garden is also the Dolphinarium- the only one of its kind in the Balkans. Inside, the whole family can enjoy the unique Dolphin show covering acrobatics, balance, and music and dolphin dances. Finally do not forget the renowned Varna Summer Festival featuring opera, ballet, choral, jazz and folklore music.
Eating and Drinking
Although the Hotel Aurora provides an extensive evening food menu, you may wish to venture into the hub of the resort or into Varna for the evening. The average price for a two-course meal for two, including a bottle of wine, would cost you in the region of 25 Lev (about £9).
Currency
We advise you to exchange most of your Sterling into Euros, before your stay in Bulgaria, rather than Leva as the Euro is stronger in Bulgaria than the British pound. There is a Bureau de Change a minute’s walk away from our office in the centre of Varna and they will be glad to exchange your currency into Leva. They will also change back for you any remaining Leva into Euros or Sterling, should you have any, before you depart for the UK. Please refer to our currency converter for the current exchange rates.
